Art is so much more than a wall decoration to both it's creator and the viewer. Art is about connection and emotion and it is a very personal thing. Even artwork with a seemingly straightforward subject matter may evoke a range of feelings and memories in the viewer that perhaps even its creator could have never imagined. To me that is wonderful and even a little bit magical.
There was a time when I forgot the importance that art had in my life, a time when my pencils were tucked away in the cupboard because... well I am not sure why really... perhaps I felt like I was wasting my time (I am sure at some point most artists can relate to this feeling).
Unfortunately it wasn't until a very sad time in my life that I was reminded just how important it is to have something that for you makes time feel like it stands still, someway to express yourself when words escape you and something you love.
I am thankful to have found my love of drawing again. I try to remind myself that not everything I create needs to be perfect, not everything I create needs to be something I want to share but everything I create allows me to learn, to grow and express myself.
So if you have some art supplies hiding away maybe it is time you rediscover them :)
Happy creating.
