The following original artworks were created by Ashlee Hambleton as part of Broken/Resilient a collaborative exhibition with dance/movement artist Rebecca Cannon. Broken/Resilient is a collaborative exhibition by dance/movement artist Rebecca Cannon and visual artist Ashlee Hambleton of Red Elephant Creative Tas. Broken/Resilient explores the theme of pain and aims to promote the benefits of the arts as a wellbeing tool. Pain is a unique, personal journey, and not always visible, this exhibition acknowledges challenges pain presents, while exploring resilience and strength discovered in the process.
Ashlee (Ash) Hambleton’s arts practice focuses on detailed observation of the natural world. This practice provides Ash with a felt sense of connection to the environment, and an opportunity to discover inspiration for resilience, strength and hope. Ash uses artistic observation to access additional wellbeing benefits including mindfulness, patience and learning to overcome challenges. The collection of artworks created by Ash for Broken/Resilient were inspired by a lived experience with pain, personal utilisation of the arts as a well-being tool to help process experiences as well as the Japanese artform of Kintsugi, in which broken pottery is repaired with gold, to create a new artwork celebrating imperfection.
Three key elements feature within these works including:
peony, (a symbol of healing in Greek mythology) to represent life and joy
hands to represent the presence of the artist
gold thread/paint to represent creativity and healing.
